New REST API with several improvements – State of the art!

Since Spirius launched its first services just over 12 years ago, development has progressed. But changing APIs already used by customers is not an option as it would force customers to update their existing integrations. Therefore, we now choose to launch a completely new API in parallel with the existing ones.

We have developed a new REST API based on the technology available today. It was time to make an update, as we are constantly getting new customers who connect to our API. It has been a fun project to build that type of API, completely in class with Google and AWS, says Robin Henriksson, senior developer, who was responsible for the project.

The new REST API has several improvements and features, below are some of them:

  • Follows common rules for REST API, is modern and standardized.
  • The character encoding is automatically selected depending on the characters included in the message.
  • Opportunity for even better security via signed requests.
  • Ability to set DLR URL per request rather than just per account.
  • Better OpenAPI-based documentation.

Our existing solution has a few years on its neck, even though it still works very well, in some cases perhaps more than enough, for customers. At the same time, it is fun to launch a completely new REST API that has all the features that new customers demand, says Martin Kristell, CTO at Spirius.

A beta version is now available for those customers who are interested in testing. We expect to release the finished version in early spring. It is one of the largest investments we have made in a few years. I would dare to say that there is no better API for Application-2-Mobile SMS on the market right now, Jonas Rexeke concludes.
